Ex-president Zillur Rahman's 10th death anniversary today

Former president Zillur Rahman, a veteran politician, hero of the Language Movement, coordinator of the Liberation War, and close friend of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, passed away ten years ago today.

 Zillur Rahman died at a hospital in Singapore on March 20, 2013.

On February 12, 2009, he took office as the country's 19th president after beginning his political career as an Awami League activist.

He performed his duties as the Awami League's general secretary during the course of five administrations that lasted 12 years.

Zillur, who was born in 1929 into a well-known Muslim family in Kishoreganj's Bhairab upazila, was elected to the seat of Bhairab-Kuliarchar for six times.

He served as the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives and the Deputy Leader of the Parliament before taking office as President in 2009.
