AL nominates candidates for five city polls with 3 new faces

The ruling Awami League has picked up its mayoral candidates for the upcoming city corporation polls in Gazipur, Sylhet, Khulna, Rajshahi and Barishal.

Abul Khayer Abdullah has been nominated for Barishal city corporation, Ajmatullah Khan for Gazipur city corporation, incumbent mayor Khairuzzaman Liton for Rajshahi city corporation, incumbent mayor Talukder Abdul Khalek for Khulna city corporation, and Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury for Sylhet city corporation.

A meeting of AL's Local Government Nomination Board was held on Saturday with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader made the announcement at a press conference after the meeting.

As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the elections will be held in Gazipur on May 25, Khulna and Barishal on June 12, and Rajshahi and Sylhet on June 2.
