KCC polls: Nomination papers of 4 mayoral candidates cancelled

The nomination papers of four Khulna City Corporation election candidates were cancelled after primary scrutinisation. On the other hand, the papers of the other three candidates were declared valid.

Md Alauddin, returning officer of the election, announced the cancellation of nomination papers on Thursday morning.

The returning officer said the nomination papers of independent candidates Al Amin Md Abdullah Chowdhury, SM Shafiqur Rahman, Syed Kamrul Islam, and Zaker Party candidate S M Sabbir Hossain, were cancelled.

Meanwhile, the nomination papers of Awami League candidate and incumbent Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Maulana Abdul Awal, and Jatiya Party candidate Shafiqul Islam Madhu were declared valid.

The electoral symbols will be distributed among the candidates on May 26. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 25.

A total of 5,35,528 voters under 31 wards will be eligible to cast their votes on June 12 from 8am to 4pm.
