SCC polls: Mayor Arif decides not to run for reelection

Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Ariful Haque on Saturday said he will not participate in the upcoming city corporation elections.

Mayor Ariful, a member of the BNP central committee, said the decision was taken in line with his party's directives. He was speaking at a rally organised in the historical registry ground at Bandarbazar, Sylhet.

In his 45-minute speech, Ariful Haque criticised several moves by the present government and the election commission. However, he praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the late finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, and local lawmaker and Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.
