Liton steps down from mayoral post in Rajshahi

AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has resigned from the post of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) mayor, aiming to take part in the upcoming mayoral election.

RCC sources said he submitted his resignation to the ministry on Sunday (May 21) afternoon.

Head of Liton's media wing and joint secretary of City Awami League, Ahsanul Haque Pintu said, "The resignation letter has been submitted. It is only a matter of time to be accepted. Our candidate will submit the nomination form to the Election Commission as soon as the ministry gives the letter of acceptance of resignation."

Pintu said Tuesday is the last day for nomination and submission of candidates in the Rajshahi City Corporation Elections.

Earlier, Zaker Party leader Latif Anwar picked up the nomination form for the post of mayor on Sunday. Jatiya Party mayoral candidate Saiful Islam Swapan submitted his nomination on the same day.

Liton was elected mayor for the second time in the RCC mayoral election on July 30, 2018.
