GCC polls: Govt declares public holiday on May 25

The government has declared a general holiday on May 25 in Gazipur for the city corporation election slated on that day.

A gazette notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday.

The Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls will be held using electronic voting machines (EVMs) at 480 polling centres. Eight mayoral candidates will be running in the election.

Earlier, Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) banned the operation of motorcycles from May 23 midnight and heavy vehicles from May 24 midnight ahead of the polls.
