GCC polls: Ex-mayor Zahangir's mother votes

Gazipur City Corporation's former mayor Zahangir Alam's mother and independent candidate Zaida Khatun has voted in the GCC polls which began on Thursday morning.

After casting her vote, Zaida said, "Voting has been fair till now. Our agents were kicked out of some places. Inshallah truth will prevail."

Zahangir Alam said, "Our agents are being threatened in various polling stations. Already some agents have been kicked out. But threats will not work."

He also hoped that the authority will ensure a fair election.

"If the election is fair, we will win for sure," he added.

Voting for the GCC polls began at 8am and it will continue till 4pm without any break.

Independent candidate Zaida Khatun and AL nominee for mayor Azmat Ullah Khan are the most talked about candidates.

The voting is being held using the electronic voting machine (EVM) at 480 polling centres under the GCC. There are approximately 11,794,764 voters in the GCC, which consists of 57 total wards.
