GCC Polls: EC monitoring via CCTV cameras

The Election Commission (EC) is monitoring the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election through 4,435 CCTV cameras set in 480 polling centres.

Five election commissioners are monitoring the elections in this process. Journalists are being allowed to enter the monitoring room in the capital's Agargaon once every two hours for a small period. The monitoring started at 8am on Thursday.

EC officials are promptly taking action whenever they see any irregularity on the CCTV camera.

At around 9:30am, Election Commissioner Rashida Sultana noticed an irregularity in the GCC polling centre number 100.

She immediately called the official in charge of the election and said, "A Panjabi-clad man is sitting in booth number 3 in polling centre number 100. He is not listening to anyone."

“He is not leaving either. He is forcing people to vote. He is disrupting the voting process. Take prompt action, arrest him if needed."

Voting for the GCC polls began at 8am and it will continue till 4pm without any break.

Independent candidate Zayeda Khatun and AL nominee for mayor Azmat Ullah Khan are the most talked about candidates.

The voting is being held using the electronic voting machine (EVM) at 480 polling centres under the GCC. There are approximately 11,794,764 voters in the GCC, which consists of 57 total wards.
