Gazipur City Corporation polls end with high turnout

Polling to the Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election has ended peacefully. 

The voting began at 8am and continued till 4pm without any break.

The counting of votes is underway.

However, voters inside several polling centres cast their votes even after 4pm as they could not cast their votes within the stipulated time due to the huge rush of voters and the lower speed of some electronic voting machines (EVMs).

A total of 11,79,476 voters -  5,92,762 male, 5,86,696 female and 18 transgender - were expected to exercise their franchise.
