RCC polls: 3 mayoral candidates lose security deposit

Three mayoral candidates of the Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) election lost their security deposit as they could not secure the minimum number of votes to get the deposit back.

Murshid Alam of Islami Andolon Bangladesh got 13,483 votes, Latif Anwar Hossain of the Jaker Party bagged 11,713 votes, while Jatiya Party candidate Saiful Islam secured 10,272 votes.

Each mayoral candidate was required to have at least one-eighth of the total cast to save their deposited Tk 20,000 with the Election Commission, according to the city corporation's electoral rules.

In Wednesday's election, 56.20 per cent of voters cast their votes. There were 3,51,982 voters, including 1,80,809 females, in 155 polling centres in 30 wards.
