Nothing to hide, discussed polls: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said he held discussions about a fair and acceptable election with European Union (EU) Ambassador in Bangladesh Charles Whiteley, and there is nothing to hide about the discussion.

Obaidul Quader made the remarks in response to questions from journalists after his meeting with the envoy at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon.

"The government wants a fair election. During the polls, the incumbent government will perform its routine duties and help the Election Commission," he said.

When asked whether the EU expressed any worried over the upcoming national election, he said, "They did not express any worries. They are expecting the best outcome."

Meanwhile, Charles Whiteley said the EU is invested in a fair, peaceful and participatory election in Bangladesh. This is why a 6-member delegation has come to visit Bangladesh. They will hold meetings with political parties and law enforcement agencies and express their opinions regarding a proper election.
