Khagrachari AL-BNP clash injures 25

A clash has broken out in Khagrachari town centring simultaneous programmes taken by the Awami League (AL) and BNP. At least 25 people, including police members, were injured in the clash in front of the Shapla Chattar.

BNP has claimed that around 50 of the party's leaders and activists were injured in the clash. Meanwhile, 15 AL men were receiving treatment at the Khagrachari District Hospital.

Eyewitnesses said AL leaders and activists started gathering near the Khagrachari Pourashava Gate ahead of their scheduled march programme. While crossing the location, BNP men engaged in a verbal altercation with the AL men at around 10:30am. The altercation escalated and a chase-counter chase took place, leading to the clash.

Till the filing of this report at 1pm, the clash was still going on. Police were trying to bring the situation under control, they said.
