Youth Rally stage collapses, injures several

Several people, including journalists, were injured after a stage at the 'Youth Rally' at Suhrawardy Uddyan in the capital collapsed on Saturday afternoon.

The rally was arranged by three BNP associate bodies – Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Swechchasebak Dal. The incident happened before the rally kicked off at around 2pm. One of the people suffered a broken leg in the incident, while another suffered a twisted ankle.

After the incident, a makeshift stage was arranged on a pickup van and the event continued.

According to eyewitnesses, leaders of the event kept requesting people to leave the stage as it was overcrowded, but their warnings fell on deaf ears. Suddenly, the stage collapsed under the weight of a large number of people.

Later, a pickup van was used as a makeshift stage. Jubo Dal President Salahuddin Tuku, Swechasebak Dal's President SM Jilani, and Chhatra Dal President Rawnakul Islam Shrabon occupied the stage.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reached the venue and the rally's activities started at around 3:25pm. He addressed the rally as the chief guest.
