BNP's grand rally begins at Nayapaltan

A BNP rally, aiming to mount pressure on the government to accept the party's one-point demand, is underway at the capital's Nayapaltan.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived at Nayapaltan two and a half hours ahead of the rally. He is expected to address the rally as the chief guest.

Meanwhile, leaders and activists of the BNP started arriving at the venue early on Friday. A crowd was forming as early as 8:30am.

Chhatra Dal's joint general secretary Sarwar Hossain said he brought leaders and activists from Cumilla to Nayapaltan at 6am. Some people came to the venue late last night. Some arrived at dawn.

BNP men were also seen on the roads and alleys around Nayapaltan. They were found to have travelled from different parts of the country.

BNP’s Dhaka south and north city units are organizing the rally to press home the opposition’s one-point demand for holding the upcoming national election under a non-party government.

Apart from BNP, 37 like-minded political parties and alliances are also going to arrange separate rallies in different city areas to press home the one-point demand that includes the resignation of the Awami League government and holding the next election under a neutral government.
