BNP leaders Gayeshwar, Aman detained by police after clashes

Police detained several BNP leaders and activists, including its standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Dhaka north city unit convener Amanullah Aman after the party engaged in clashes at several locations in Dhaka on Saturday.

BNP leaders and activists gathered at several entry points of the capital to observe their five-hour sit-in programme. Clashes between Police and the party's leaders and activists broke out in several locations such as Dholaikhal and Matuail. 

Gayeshwar was detained from Dholaikhal while Aman was detained from Gabtoli.

On Friday, BNP announced a five-hour sit-in programme in all important entry points of the capital on Saturday to press home their one-point demand.

Later, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that political parties, including the BNP, Awami League, or the associate bodies of either do not have permission to hold programmes in Dhaka on Saturday.
