Voting underway in Chattogram-10 by-polls

Voting for the by-election in Chattogram-10 constituency (Double Mooring-Halishahar) is underway on Sunday.

Voting started at 8am, and it will continue till 4pm without any break.

Voters are seen standing in long queues at polling centres to cast their votes using electronic voting machines (EVM) in a peaceful manner. No untoward events occurred at the polls till the filing of this report at 10am.

The constituency fell vacant after the death of lawmaker Afsarul Amin on June 2.

Returning Officer Jahangir Hossain said the number of voters is 4,88,638 under 156 polling stations.

The contestants in the by-polls are Md Mohiuddin Bacchu of Bangladesh Awami League (with boat symbol), Md Samsul Alam of Jatiya Party (with plough symbol), Deepak Kumar Palit from Trinamul BNP (with golden fibre symbol), Rashid Miah of Bangladesh Cultural Freedom Alliance (with cane symbol), as well as independent candidates Md Arman Ali (with balloon symbol), and Monzurul Islam Bhuiyan (with rocket symbol).
