Schedule for national polls not before October: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has said the schedule for the upcoming national polls will not be declared in September, and that it is not possible before October.

He made the remarks in reply to journalists at the EC Secretariat in the capital's Agargaon on Sunday afternoon.

"There has been no discussion or decision among us regarding this (declaring the schedule)," he said.

When asked about the possible time the polls may be held, he said, "Not before the last week of December. It is included in our planning; last week of December or first week of January - that's the most important thing."
