BNP demo begins at Suhrawardy Udyan

To protest the ‘oppression’ of party officials and supporters during their sit-in on Saturday at various Dhaka entrances, the BNP has organised a mass gathering at the historical Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

On Monday at 3:00 pm, the holy Quran was recited to mark the beginning of the rally.

As part of the party's national programme, the BNP's south and north city units in Dhaka have staged the rally on Monday.

A temporary stage has been constructed on four trucks while keeping them side by side, and there are about 50 loudspeakers set up throughout the rally grounds.

The BNP convener for Dhaka South City, Abdus Salam, asserted that a huge number of party men will attend the meeting.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will speak as the rally's chief guest.

Party leaders and activists have descended on the area from all around the city as of 2:00 pm.

There are many law enforcement personnel stationed there to guard against any untoward occurrences.

Violence and fights that occurred during the BNP's Saturday sit-in campaign at Dhaka's main entry points caused an unknown number of injuries.

Several vehicles were set on fire during the clashes between BNP activists and police in a number of places, including Matuail and Shyamoli.
