14-party alliance to launch weeklong programmes on Wednesday

The Central 14-party Alliance would launch a week-long from the following Wednesday in protest against the BNP's anti-state schemes.

Amir Hossain Amu, the spokesperson and coordinator for the Central 14-party alliance, made the announcement after hosting a meeting of the alliance at his Eskaton home in the city on Monday afternoon.

“We (the 14-party alliance) will remain on the ground starting on August 2 with a weekly schedule. On Tuesday, we will present the program schedule to the relevant authorities. The program will continue throughout the week after receiving approval,” he said.

Amu, a member of the advisory council for the ruling Awami League (AL), stated that the BNP has been heard discussing the amendment of the constitution. 

They try to undermine the constitutional process with yet another trend, he claimed.

“Any condition for unbiased and free elections would be accepted. But by interfering with the constitutional process, we will not permit the amendment of the constitution,” he added.

Among others who were present at the meeting include Bangladesh Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon and General Secretary Fazle Hossain Badsha, Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) General Secretary Shirin Akhter, Bangladesh Tariqat Federation Chairman Syed Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari, Ganatantri Party General Secretary Dr Shahadat Hossain and Communist Kendro Convener Wazedul Islam.
