One killed in clash following Saeedee's gayabana janaza

A man was killed and 15 people were injured in sporadic clashes between activists of Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami and pro-Jamaat student body Chhatra Shibir  over holding gayabana namaz-e-janaza of war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee in Chakaria Upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Forkan, 60, son of late Abul Fazal, a resident of Ward No. 1 of Chakaria Municipality.

Sources said an hour-long clash broke out between police, Awami League activists and Saeedee’s supporters over the gayabana janaza on Baitush Sharaf road of Chakaria station around 4 pm.

Several vehicles, including police van, health department’s vehicles, were vandalized by the unruly men.

Jamaat claims that the deceased Forkan was its responsible leader.

Dr. Shobhan Dutta, also officer of Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, said, “A man was brought to the hospital with bullet injuries. After examination, he was declared dead.”
