LDA calls for half-day hartal

The Left Democratic Alliance (LDA), a coalition of left-leaning political parties, has called for a nationwide half-day general strike on Thursday in protest of the election date's announcement.

The Communist Party of Bangladesh's general secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince announced the hartal in opposition to Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal's schedule.

He declared that they will observe the strike from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The 12th parliamentary election will be held on January 7 in 2024, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Habibul Awal.

In a televised address to the nation on Wednesday evening, Awal unveiled the election schedule, urging all political parties to join the polls.
