BNP rejects national polls schedule

BNP has rejected the election schedule announced by the Election Commission on Wednesday evening.

Ignoring the expectations of the people of Bangladesh, public opinion and international community's appeal, the election commission has announced the one-sided schedule of farcical polls.

The BNP said, "Just like in the past, the schedule declared to take away democracy and people's right to vote will be washed away in the Bay of Bengal by another farcical election. The CEC has played a joke on the nation by issuing schedule. His language is a reflection of the Prime Minister's language.”

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi gave the party's response after the announcement of the details of the 12th National election in a virtual press conference on Wednesday. 

He said that the party will not participate in any election under the ruling Awami League government. The party has been conducting a one-point movement for a long time demanding a non-partisan government during the election period.

The 12th parliamentary election will be held on January 7 in 2024, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Habibul Awal.

In a televised address to the nation on Wednesday evening, Awal unveiled the election schedule, urging all political parties to join the polls.
