Rumour has it: Major Hafiz, Shakib joining BNM

Brand new instances of polarization are becoming visible in the country's politics as the national election looms. Seeing as the main opposition party BNP has rejected the election schedule, other parties, known as 'Kings' Party', are starting to make preparations. They are luring in former and present leaders of BNP.

Already four parties named Trinamool BNP, Bangladesh Nationalalist Movement (BNM), Pragatishil Ganatantrik Forum, and Shwatantra Ganatantra Mancha have surfaced, and many leaders have joined these parties.

According to BNM leaders, BNP Vice-Chairman Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Bangladesh Cricket team captain Shakib Al Hasan may join the party very soon. Major Hafiz may take the position of chairman, while Shakib may be given the position of senior vice-chairman.

The newly registered party's General Secretary is going to be Dr Md Shahjahan, also the general secretary of Bangladesh Manobadhikar Bureau.

When asked, Major Hafiz told the Daily Samakal that he has already talked about this in a press release, and if he reaches a decision, he will inform that as well. Meanwhile, Shakib expressed surprise when asked if he was planning to join the new party.
