'Shamim Haque ensured cancellation of his own candidacy'

Faridpur-3 Awami League's nominated candidate Shamim Haque has ensured the cancellation of his own candidacy in the polls by bringing notorious criminals to his side and attacking his rivals, independent candidate A. K. Azad has said.

He made the remarks in response to a question from journalists at an emergency press conference held in his own residence in Faridpur City at noon on Wednesday. The press conference was held in response to an attack on A.K. Azad's supporter Md Abdur Rahman Sheikh Jhanak and the vandalism on his election camp in the last few days.

Calling for the cancellation of Shamim Haque's candidacy, he also said, "Faridpur's notorious top terrors are working for Shamim Haque. Even last night they hacked one of my activists. Now he is fighting for his life. My female supporters are being terrorized. Those who are campaigning for the 'Eagle' symbol are being threatened.

"We have complained at the police station many times. The candidate (Shamim Haque) himself is also threatening my supporters. Through these activities, Shamim Haque has ensured the cancellation of his own candidacy."
