Voting underway peacefully in Faridpur: A. K. Azad

Faridpur-3 (Sadar) Member of Parliament A. K. Azad has cast his vote at the Hitaishi High School polling centre in the ongoing first phase of the sixth upazila parishad elections. 

After voting at around 11:30am on Wednesday, he said, voting is underway peacefully. While the turnout is low, everyone is free of fear. 

Presiding Officer Mahbubur Rahman told the Daily Samakal that 70 votes were cast at the centre till 10:30am. The total number of voters at the centre is 3,936. 

Voting began at 8am and will continue till 4pm in 139 upazilas. A total of 1,635 candidates are competing in this phase. Among them, 570 are vying for the post of chairman, 625 for vice chairman and 440 for the post of female vice chairman.

A total of 418 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed on Monday ahead of the polls.
