Vote counting in third phase of upazila polls underway

Vote counting in the third phase of Upazila Parishad Elections is underway in 87 upazilas across the country on Wednesday (29 May). 

Voting started at 8 am and continued till 4pm.

Out of the 87 upazilas, polling through EVM was held in 16 upazilas, while other upazilas used ballots. 

The government has deployed a total of 457 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to maintain law and order ahead of the polls.

Although the election commission initially announced a schedule for votes to be cast in 112 upazilas in the third phase, it was halted in 22 upazilas due to Cyclone Remal. Voting was also postponed in Narshingdi’s Raipura as a candidate was killed.
