BNP leader Pintu released after 17 years

BNP Vice Chairman Abdus Salam Pintu was released from jail after nearly 17 years. He was freed from the Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur on Tuesday morning. 

Pintu is scheduled to visit former president Ziaur Rahman's mausoleum complex. After that, he will visit the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan. 

The BNP leader was arrested in 2008 in connection with the August 21 grenade attack case. On October 11, 2018, all of the accused in the case were found guilty and handed verdicts by a special court, with Abdus Salam Pintu being among the 19 sentenced to death.

On December 1, the High Court acquitted all of the convicted in two cases over the grisly August 21, 2004 grenade attack.
