Opportunists won't have room in BNP: Mirza Abbas

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Mirza Abbas has said there will be no room for Awami League or opportunists in BNP.

He said this while addressing a membership renewal ceremony of the Dhaka City South BNP at the party's central office in Naya Paltan on Friday.

The event was held on the occasion of the inauguration of the membership renewal programme of Dhaka City South BNP.

Mirza Abbas said some people from the Awami League or opportunists will try to become new members of the BNP.

"Those who will not bring any benefit to us will only harm us. Therefore, they cannot be made our members," he said.

"We have to be very careful and aware in renewing the party's membership and recruiting members. If at the time of renewal, it is found that the person is 

involved in any anti-organisation activities, tarnishing the image of the party or any other misdeed, his or her membership cannot be renewed," he said.

Mirza Abbas said BNP believes in quality, not quantity.

Dhaka South BNP Convener Rafiqul Islam Majnu chaired the programme which was moderated by Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin.

BNP Joint Secretaries General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel and Abdus Salam Azad, Industries Secretary Salahuddin Ahmed, Executive Committee Member Habibur Rashid Habib, Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas, Joint Convener of Dhaka City South BNP Harunur Rashid Harun were present, among others.
