BNP requests India to reconsider Waqf law

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has requested the Indian government to reconsider the Waqf law, which it claims infringes on the rights of India's Muslim-minority community. 

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed argued that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, is an attempt to contravene the rights of India's Muslim-minority community and is discriminatory towards Muslims. 

The law, which is described as an ancient practice to donate something in Islam, prohibits the sale or transfer of Waqf properties. 

The BNP leader argued that the law is against the main spirit of the Waqf system in Islami law, referring to the opinions of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board. 

He suggested that the Waqf Board of Directors should be formed with Muslims, as they considered it as direct intervention on the rights of Muslims. 

The BNP's appeal aims to maintain regional religious harmony and protect the rights of all religious faiths.
