Democracy still faces obstruction at every step: Khaleda Zia

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has said that democracy is still being hampered in the country. 

She made the remarks while virtually joining the speech of the chief guest at a discussion meeting organised at the Engineers Institution Auditorium in Ramna on Thursday to mark the 44th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman.

Khaleda Zia said, “Shaheed Zia is a unique embodiment of democracy, independence, freedom of the press and judiciary, self-reliance, development and the creation of our own nationalism in this country.”

“The uninterrupted journey of that democracy, for which he was martyred in the fight to establish democracy and protect sovereignty, is still being hampered at every step. Soon we will see Bangladesh re-established in democracy. Let this be our pledge on the martyrdom anniversary of Zia,” said the BNP leader.

The BNP Chairperson said, “Every year this day in May comes to our family with a painful memory. On this day, not only our family but the entire country became sad and without guardians.”

“An inseparable name associated with our beloved motherland Bangladesh is Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. He made his name inseparable from this country by declaring independence from Chittagong. He dedicated his life as a successful, honest, far-sighted and truly patriotic president.”

Khaleda Zia urged all levels of BNP leaders and activists and countrymen to move forward in an orderly manner towards establishing democracy. 

“Keep it in mind that we must pay tribute to Shaheed Zia by implementing the politics of solving all problems through democracy and development for all,” she concluded.
