Former Jubo Dal leader shot dead in Khulna

Mullah Mahbubur Rahman, the expelled vice-president of Jubo Dal from Daulatpur police station in Khulna, was fatally shot by assailants on Friday afternoon in front of his home in Maheshwarpasha Paschim Para. 

The attackers also severed his leg veins to ensure his death, according to Daulatpur police station OC Mir Atahar Ali.

Mahbubur gained notoriety after a viral image showed him wielding a locally made weapon during a clash with students at KUET on February 18, leading to his expulsion from Jubo Dal that same night. 

Despite this, he continued to participate in party activities.

Eyewitnesses reported that Mahbubur was cleaning his car when three men on a motorcycle approached and shot him. After he collapsed, the assailants used sharp weapons to cut his leg veins, ensuring his death.

Local sources claimed that Mahbubur had become increasingly reckless in the area since August 5, engaging in disputes with a rival group over drug sales, which led to prior attacks against him.

OC Mir Atahar Ali confirmed that Mahbubur’s conflict with the rival group over drug sales is a potential motive for the killing, and an investigation is underway. 

Police recovered four bullet shells from the scene and have launched an operation to arrest the perpetrators.
