BNP leader Fazlur Rahman show-caused

BNP leader Fazlur Rahman has been served a show-cause notice for his continuous controversial and misleading comments on the July-August mass uprising. 

The BNP central office sent him a show-cause notice on Sunday. 

He has been asked to give a written response to the notice within the next 24 hours. 

According to BNP central office sources, the show-cause notice states, “You [Fazlur Rahman] have been continuously making ugly and misleading statements about the historic July-August mass uprising and the statements you are making about the martyrs who sacrificed their lives are completely against the party ideology and the spirit of the mass uprising.”

It said, “Your statements against this glorious mass uprising and the movement to restore democracy have created a strong reaction in the public mind. Many believe that your statements are a well-planned attempt to tarnish the party's reputation.”

It also read, “You are even speaking in a way that hurts the religious sentiments of the people. In the July-August mass uprising, more than 1,500 people, including more than 450 leaders and activists of BNP, were martyred and more than 30,000 people were seriously injured. You are constantly insulting and disrespecting the heroic role of the students and the public in the mass uprising to restore democracy. Therefore, you have been instructed to submit a written reply to the party's central office in Nayapaltan within the next 24 hours, showing the proper reasons why organisational action will not be taken against you due to such bizarre and undisciplined statements.”

Earlier at a programme, BNP Chairperson's Adviser Advocate Fazlur Rahman referred to everyone involved in the July-August movement as Jamaat Shibir.
