Jatiya Party, Gono Adhikar Parishad clash in Kakrail

A clash took place in front of the Jatiya Party's central office in Kakrail during a procession organised by the Gono Odhikar Parishad on Friday evening.

The incident involved stone-throwing, prompting swift intervention by police and army personnel to restore order.

According to the Gono Odhikar Parishad, their procession was ambushed from behind by members of the Jatiya Party.

In contrast, the Jatiya Party alleges that the procession initiated an attack on their headquarters.

Abu Hanif, a senior council member of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, stated in a message that the group was holding a protest rally demanding a prohibition on Awami League political activities.

Around 6:30 pm, as the procession reached the Paltan intersection, its rear was reportedly assaulted by 200-300 individuals emerging from the Jatiya Party office, he added.

He claimed the attackers included affiliates from the Awami League and Jubo League.

When Gono Odhikar Parishad members resisted, the situation escalated into a full clash.

Prominent figures in the procession included Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, General Secretary Rashed Khan, and other key leaders.

Rashed Khan sustained injuries during the skirmish and shared details on his Facebook post.

In response to the alleged attack, the council has announced a torchlight procession as a form of protest.

On the other side, Khandaker Delwar Jalali, press secretary to the Jatiya Party Chairman, described the event as a "terrorist attack" on their central office in a released statement.

Inspector Atiqul Alam Khandaker from Ramna Police Station, who was present at the site, reported that authorities received reports of stone-pelting between the two sides around 6:15 pm.

With police and army on the ground, the area is now stable and under control.
