NCP demands suspension of Jatiya Party activities

The Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) has called on the government to suspend the organisational activities of the Jatiya Party, accusing it of legitimising fraudulent elections during the Awami League's tenure and engaging in activities for a banned party. 

The demand was made by NCP Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adib following a meeting with the Chief Adviser Dr Yunus on Sunday evening at Jamuna.

During the meeting, the NCP urged immediate action based on the findings of the Enforced Disappearances Commission. 

Adib said, "The commission's report clearly identifies state agencies' involvement in extrajudicial killings, disappearances, and murders over the past 15 years. We demand the government take decisive action against those implicated in these allegations."

The NCP also supported for the next election to be a national election to provide a legal and constitutional foundation for the July Charter. 

Adib emphasised that such an election is essential to address the 54-year political crisis, dismantle the autocratic, single-person-centered structure, and formulate a new constitution.

Additionally, addressing concerns about the Election Commission's recent hearing on constituency delimitation, Adib questioned the EC's capacity and impartiality in discussions with the Chief Adviser.
