JUCSU polls end amid boycott, non-confidence, and claims of irregularities

The voting in long-awaited elections to the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) and hall unions concluded amid allegations of irregularities and complaints on Thursday at 8:15pm.

Earlier, the polls began on schedule at 9am at 21 centres, comprising 224 booths in 11 male and 10 female residential halls.

Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD)-backed 'Sadi-Baishakhi-Sazzad-Ikra' panel boycotted the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) polls at around 3:30pm with several complaints. 

The Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel "Sammilito Chhatra Oikya" General Secretary (GS) candidate Mazharul Islam called for unity after the JCD-backed panel announced their boycott. 

Later, four other panels also boycotted the polls and demanded a re-election. 

Voting at JUCSU was scheduled to end at 5pm. However, voting at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall continued till 8:15pm as the number of voters was the highest in this hall.
