NCP committed to delivering true independence benefits: Akhtar Hossain

National Citizens Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain said that although Bangladesh has marked over 50 years of independence, citizens have yet to fully realise their rightful dignity and entitlements. 

"The essence of independence lay in ensuring equal rights, equal dignity, and justice for all. Yet, discrimination, neglect, and injustice persist in society. The NCP is dedicated to eliminating these disparities and bringing the genuine fruits of independence directly to the people's doorsteps," he said.

He made the remarks during a meeting in Kandi Union of Pirgachha Upazila, Rangpur, on Tuesday. 

There, Hossain interacted with individuals from various walks of life as part of his grassroots campaign in the Rangpur-4 constituency ahead of the upcoming National Parliament elections.

At the event, Hossain noted, "A vast divide between the rich and poor continues to plague the nation. Wealth has been amassed both legally and illegally, while the impoverished remain sidelined. We envision a Bangladesh where a person's dignity is not measured by their wealth."

Emphasising his roots, he added, "A neighbour's rights take precedence. Having risen from the people, their challenges are my own. I have long participated in movements and struggles at Dhaka University, enduring imprisonment, repression, and torture on multiple occasions—all for the nation's welfare, to liberate people from injustice and oppression."

He urged the union's residents: "Stand with me. I pledge to prioritise development in every underdeveloped area."

The meeting was attended by NCP Pirgachha Upazila Chief Coordinator Abdul Al Mamun, Joint Convener Mizanur Rahman Chana, and local leaders and activists.
