Jamaat Ameer apologizes for all mistakes, not just 1971, but since 1947

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman issued an unconditional apology for any harm caused by the organisation or its members since 1947, not just during the 1971 events.

Speaking at a meeting with journalists in New York on Wednesday, he addressed the ongoing situation in Bangladesh, emphasising the organisation’s accountability.

Shafiqur Rahman noted that this was not the first time such an apology had been made, citing previous instances by Ghulam Azam, Matiur Rahman Nizami, and himself, including after ATM Azharul Islam’s recent release from prison.

He acknowledged the possibility of mistakes, stating, “We are human; 99 out of 100 decisions may be correct, but one could be wrong, potentially causing harm to our nation.”

He questioned the criticism over the phrasing of his apology, saying, “I apologised unconditionally without setting any terms—what more is needed?”
