No scope of note of dissent in July Charter: Nahid Islam

National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam announced that the July Charter, to be issued from the site of the mass uprising, will be presented to Dr. Muhammad Yunus with no room for dissent. 

"Whatever has been agreed upon will stand; the rest will be decided by the people. We will proceed to elections on the legal foundation of the July Charter," he said.

He emphasised that participants in the uprising must enter parliament. "The next parliament will reform the constitution and draft a new one. All those who joined the mass uprising belong there."

Nahid made these remarks as chief guest at the launch of the University Teachers Forum on Friday afternoon at the Kabi Shamsur Rahman Auditorium, Bangla Academy. 

The event unveiled the forum's 56-member central convening committee.

"The people of Bangladesh demand change," Nahid said. 

"Without it, the uprising, elections, and consensus efforts will collapse. If the uprising's gains reach only political parties and a few individuals, it is no change at all. The people will return to the streets."

He noted the absence of an education commission amid lingering fascist structures. 

"Six commissions focus on elections and politics—everyone fixates on those. We have failed to broaden the conversation. Even there, consensus eludes us."

Nahid highlighted the uprising's roots in economic hardship, with youth hit hardest. 

"Our options were government jobs or emigration, but quotas blocked even that path."

With elections nearing, he cautioned against empty promises. "Parties pledge millions of jobs and zero unemployment. Speak realistically—no one explains how to create employment or empower youth."

He reaffirmed the NCP's 24-point manifesto commitment to education. "Youth need investment, entrepreneurship, and jobs, but a reformed education system is the foundation."

The University Teachers Forum is convened by Dhaka University Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, with Dr. Shamim Hamidi (Dhaka International University) as member secretary and Kabir Uddin (Bangladesh Open University) as chief organiser. 

Several NCP leaders are members. The forum states it is non-partisan but will promote strong political awareness.
