BNP to prioritize halting 'India's dominance' if elected: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that if his party comes to power, it will prioritise stopping 'India's dominance' over Bangladesh. 

He made the remarks to reporters while inspecting the rubber dam on the Mahananda River in Chapainawabganj on Saturday.

Mirza Fakhrul emphasised that, with the people's mandate, a BNP government would give special attention to the Farakka and Teesta disputes. 

Greater focus would be placed on ensuring fair water sharing and ending border killings, he said, adding that curbing 'India's dominance' would receive even higher priority.

He noted that India, as a neighboring country, could continue good relations with Bangladesh if it chooses. 

Fakhrul recalled India's cooperation during the 1971 Liberation War and urged greater support, saying, "They need to cooperate with Bangladesh more. But unfortunately, we are seeing the opposite. The Modi government has put pressure on Bangladesh. It has taken everything, but they didn't give us anything."

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was in the area to attend a mass rally organised under the 'Save Padma, Save the Country; Bangladesh First' movement in Chapainawabganj. 

The event is scheduled for this afternoon at the Nawabganj Government College ground.
