Caretaker govt revival verdict to usher in new horizon: Khasru

BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday said that the apex court verdict to reinstate the election-time caretaker government system will usher in new horizons in the country. 

"A fair election is possible under a caretaker government. Through the reinstatement of the caretaker government, the future of the country is heading toward a new horizon," he said while speaking to media after inaugurating a free medical services and health check-up camp.

Kamol Medi Aid organized the event at the base of Bottola (Banyan Tree) on Dhaka University campus this morning. 

Amir Khasru said, "The caretaker government has returned, but there will be discussions on how it will be formed."

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court delivered a verdict upholding the caretaker government system for elections, declaring the 13th Amendment to the Constitution as valid. A full bench of seven judges, headed by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed, delivered this verdict this morning.

The Appellate Division's verdict stated that the Caretaker Government system will be effective starting from the 14th national parliamentary election. However, the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election will be held under the current interim government.

In his speech as the chief guest at the medical camp inauguration, Amir Khasru said, "We have pledged to ensure free primary healthcare for citizens. We want to deliver primary healthcare to every citizen free of cost."

Khasru said, "Health and education are the primary rights of a citizen. Our vision for a new Bangladesh, which includes our economic model, involves moving forward while considering the environmental and healthcare improvements in our future investments. We want the Bangladeshi people's tax money to be invested appropriately."

"Big universities all over the world face drug problems, but I've heard there is no such issue at Dhaka University. This is Dhaka University's greatest achievement," he added.

Referring to the commitment to primary healthcare, the BNP leader said that if free primary healthcare is ensured, every family would have a monthly saving of 5/10 thousand Taka.

He said the BNP will allocate up to 5 percent of GDP in education and healthcare.
