Mahmudur Rahman Manna's nomination paper cancelled in Bogura-2 constituency

The nomination paper of Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya and a former vice president of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), has been cancelled in the Bogura-2 (Shibganj) constituency ahead of Bangladesh's upcoming parliamentary election.

On January 2, 2026, during the scrutiny of nomination papers at the Bogura Deputy Commissioner's office, District Returning Officer Md. Taufiqur Rahman announced the cancellation. 

The reason cited was a discrepancy in the dates on the affidavit: the notary public's signature was dated December 28, while Manna's own signature as the candidate was dated December 29. This suggested that the candidate did not sign the document in the presence of the notary public, violating the required procedure.

The Returning Officer noted that an appeal against the decision is possible.

Manna's nomination paper, submitted on December 29, 2025, on behalf of Nagorik Oikya using the party's "kettle" symbol, was filed by central committee member Mohammad Abdur Razzak Talukder Sajeeb. 

Although initially announced as a candidate supported by the BNP-led alliance, Manna ultimately contested independently under his party's banner.

In the same constituency, Shibganj Upazila BNP President Mir Shahe Alam, nominated by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on November 29, 2025, had his nomination declared valid. 

Former Jamaat-e-Islami MP Maulana Shahadutzaman's nomination as a Jamaat candidate was also validated.

Additionally, the nomination of former Jatiya Party MP Shariful Islam Jinnah was cancelled due to inconsistencies, including failure to submit an asset declaration form in the affidavit and not providing an income tax return.

The announcements followed scrutiny conducted on January 2, 2026, around 3:30 pm.
