Justice to be established if given responsibility of state: Jamaat Ameer

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that true justice will prevail in Bangladesh once the state assumes full responsibility, particularly through the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections.

He made these remarks to reporters on Saturday morning after visiting the grave of Abu Sayeed—the first martyr of the July 2024 mass uprising—in Babanpur village, Pirganj, Rangpur.

During the visit, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman met with Abu Sayeed's family members, paid tribute to his sacrifice and bravery, offered condolences, and inquired about their well-being. He embraced Abu Sayeed's father, Maqbul Hossain, to console him.

Speaking from the courtyard of Abu Sayeed's home, he declared, "InshaAllah, we will keep fighting to fulfill the dreams of Abu Sayeed and all other martyrs. Together with everyone, we aim to build a Bangladesh rooted in justice, fairness, and accountability to meet the people's aspirations."

Addressing the youth and young voters, he said, "I promise you, the youth: If Allah grants us strength, we will create the Bangladesh you envision, InshaAllah. We will entrust you with the leadership and keys to society, standing behind you to provide support, courage, and love."

He urged them to prepare, "Make your vote count in the next election. Vote freely as you wish. Like the July warriors, you must fight once more to prevent any tampering with your votes. We must secure the people's victory. We trust our youth can achieve this. The pledge you have taken is just beginning—it is far from over."

Present on the occasion were Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Central Working Committee Member Principal Maulana Momtaz Uddin, Rangpur-6 candidate Maulana Nurul Amin, Rangpur-4 candidate and NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain, Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Central Secretary Sibgatullah, and other Jamaat-Shibir leaders.

Following the grave visit, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman departed by road for Palashbari in Gaibandha, where he was scheduled to address an election rally.

Abu Sayeed, a student from the 2019-2020 English Department session at Begum Rokeya University, was fatally shot by police on July 16, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement in front of the university. He served as one of the coordinators of the movement. His death became a symbol of the broader July uprising that led to significant political changes in Bangladesh.
