Will accept verdict if election is fair and impartial: Jamaat Ameer

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Dhaka-15 constituency candidate Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, who is contesting with the scale symbol, stated that his party will accept the election verdict if the vote is conducted in a fair and impartial manner.

He added that other parties will also have to accept it, as this is the true beauty of democracy.

He made these remarks to reporters after casting his vote around 8:30 am on Thursday at the Manipur High School center in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman noted that for a long time, the people of the country, including himself, had been deprived of their voting rights. .

He pointed out that in 2014, 2018, and 2024, they did not get the opportunity to vote. After three missed elections, he said Allah has now granted them this chance, particularly highlighting the young generation who had waited for years without ever casting a single vote.

He expressed hope that this election would be peaceful, fair, free from terrorism and occupation, and acceptable to all. 

Regarding the formation of the next government, he emphasised that it should not belong to any individual, family, or single party, but rather represent the 18 crore people of the nation, and he remains optimistic about such a government taking shape.

Urging voters to come to the polling centers without fear, he called on countrymen to step out of their homes, exercise their voting rights, and proudly participate in nation-building.

On the voting environment, he said he had just voted at his own center and planned to monitor other centers while gathering news from across the country. 

He added that minor issues would be overlooked, but serious irregularities would not be tolerated, as they do not want anyone to lose their right to vote.

Regarding the media's role, he described it as the fourth pillar of the state and expressed a desire for the media to stand alongside them in building the country. 

He sought prayers and hoped to work together with the media's love and cooperation in the days ahead.

In response to a question about media coverage, he observed that the same news is often presented differently across outlets. 

He stated that he opposes crime, even if committed by himself, but forcing something that is not a crime to be labelled as one is an even greater wrongdoing.
