Will not accept results if any untoward incident occurs: Tarique Rahman

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman stated that he would have no objection to accepting the election results if the vote is conducted in a neutral, fair, free, and controversy-free manner. 

However, he emphasised that the election must remain neutral and peaceful. 

He made it clear that the BNP would not accept the results if any confusion, unwanted incidents, or irregularities occur during the voting process.

He made these remarks while speaking to reporters in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Thursday. 

Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman cast his vote at Gulshan Model School and later visited several areas of the capital. 

He then addressed questions from journalists gathered in front of his Gulshan office.

Tarique Rahman stressed that the general public are the true owners of the country. 

He expressed confidence that if voters turn out spontaneously in large numbers and exercise their right to vote, it would help defeat any conspiracies aimed at undermining the process.

When asked about isolated incidents occurring in different parts of the country and their potential impact on the election outcome, he replied that such acts would create a negative impression among the people toward those responsible. 

He described these incidents as undesirable and noted that they represent attempts to mislead the public in various ways.

Regarding the possibility of delays in the counting and announcement of results, Tarique Rahman said there was no reason for any delay. 

He pointed out that the public would expect quick results and expressed hope that the Election Commission would make every effort to publish them promptly. 

He added that there is a fixed deadline for announcing the results and voiced confidence that the results would be made available to the people within that timeframe.

He also described the voter turnout in Dhaka as satisfactory.
