BNP believes in multi-party democracy, not revenge: Moyeen Khan

BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan stated that the party firmly believes in multi-party democracy and rejects any politics of revenge. 

He made these remarks to journalists on Tuesday morning after paying homage at the graves of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and late Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan.

Responding to questions about BNP's stance on the reopening of Awami League offices in various districts and the return of individuals allegedly involved in the July genocide, Moyeen Khan emphasised the party's clear and consistent position. 

He highlighted BNP's historical role in Bangladesh's independence struggle, noting that on the dark night of 1971, when Pakistani occupying forces attacked innocent people like hyenas, martyr President Ziaur Rahman raised the flag of protest. 

BNP adheres to those ideals, upholding multi-party democracy and parliamentary democracy as core beliefs, he said.

He stressed that BNP does not support one-party rule, which the Awami League had imposed on the country like a heavy burden. 

Instead, BNP trusts in the power of the people and operates as a liberal political party that engages in politics with everyone. 

The party rejects revenge politics, a point repeatedly made by leader Tarique Rahman, who has also underscored commitment to the rule of law.

Moyeen Khan further noted that BNP has played a key role in restoring democracy in Bangladesh multiple times, including through the student and people-led revolution on August 5, 2024. 

The party remains dedicated to protecting this hard-won democracy and safeguarding Bangladesh's independence.

When asked about rumours of him becoming party president and whether any internal discussions had taken place on the matter, he avoided answering the question.

Accompanying him to Zia Udyan were several BNP MPs from Narsingdi constituencies: Khairul Kabir Khokon (Narsingdi-1), Manjur Elahi (Narsingdi-3), Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain (Health Minister, Narsingdi-4), and Ashraf Uddin (Narsingdi-5).
