JCD-Shibir clashes at Jagannath University

Leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir clashed in two phases at Jagannath University in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.

The first confrontation occurred on the university campus, followed by a second clash on the premises of Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital.

Sutrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Matiur Rahman confirmed the incident, saying the two groups had clashed and that police were working to bring the situation under control.

According to eyewitnesses, the initial clash began around 12:15pm as the University Grants Commission chairman arrived at the central auditorium to attend a programme. JCD members subsequently drove Shibir activists from the campus and staged a sit-in.

Around 2pm, Shibir leaders and activists from various units assembled at the National Medical College Hospital. 

JCD members gathered outside the main gate and began chanting slogans. When Shibir activists attempted to confront them, the situation escalated into an exchange of bricks and stones. 

Some participants were seen carrying domestic weapons as the Shibir group retreated into the hospital.
