Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance marches to Secretariat demanding oil and gas, blocked by police

After holding a sit-in programme in the capital’s Muktangan, leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance marched towards the Secretariat to protest the fuel oil and gas crisis and the unbridled price hike of daily necessities. 

Police stopped them with barricades after the march crossed the zero point.

The leaders and activists marched towards the Secretariat at around 12:40 pm on Thursday.

Additional police were deployed in front of the Secretariat to surround the sit-in programme of the 11-party alliance. All the gates of the Secretariat were closed as part of security at that time.

Meanwhile, the general public who came to enter the Secretariat for various purposes have been suffering due to the closure of all the gates. Many were seen waiting outside as the gates were closed. They crowded in front of various gates of the Secretariat in the hope of entering for essential purposes.

Earlier, the 11-party alliance started a sit-in programme in the rain to protest against the fuel oil and gas crisis, the skyrocketing electricity bills and price hike, the extreme deterioration of law and order, and the unbridled rise in the prices of daily necessities. 

The sit-in programme began after 11 am at the capital’s Muktangan.

The programme included opposition leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Liberal Democratic Party President Dr Col (Retd) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and Assistant Secretary General Dr Hamidur Rahman Azad, JAGPA Vice President and Spokesperson Engineer Rashed Pradhan, and other top leaders of the 11-party alliance.
