8-point demands can turn into a single-point demand at any time: Jamaat Ameer

1Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has warned the government that the eight-point demands of the 11-party alliance’s long march can turn into a single-point demand at any time.
He was speaking at the inaugural rally of the Dhaka-to-Rangpur long march on Saturday morning at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.
He said, “Today it is eight points — remember, this can become nine points, ten points. And if the nation requires it, at any time this can even turn into a single point. When it becomes a single point, the situation will become extremely dangerous. Before facing that situation, learn from the recent past. Learn the lesson and accept the people’s demands. If you fail to accept the demands, I am saying clearly — no amount of intimidation will work. We will not care about anything.”
He added that the successful Chittagong-bound long march had made some people angry, and signs of that anger have been visible in the capital for the past two days.
He urged them not to become frustrated and lose their temper, but instead to try to accept the people’s demands.
Shafiqur Rahman further said,
“We have taken to the streets with the demands of 18 crore people. 18 crore people are with the 11 parties. We will return home only after those demands are met, Insha Allah.”
Other leaders who spoke at the rally included Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad, NCP Convener Nahid Islam, LDP President Col. (Retd.) Oli Ahmed, and leaders from several other alliance partners.
The alliance has also announced further long marches towards Khulna on October 31 and towards Sylhet on November 21.
