Ershad's health condition alarming: GM Quader

The health condition of ailing Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad is alarming, said the party’s acting chairman GM Quader.

GM Quader, also the younger brother of Ershad, said this while briefing reporters over Ershad’s health condition at the Jatiya Party Chairman’s Banani office in Dhaka on Friday.

"I went to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) this morning and talked to the doctors there. The doctors said that the JP chairman's health condition is alarming. Doctors keep Ershad's body organs functioning artificially as those aren't working properly," he said. 

"Now, it is not possible to take Ershad abroad tor treatment considering his health condition. World class treatment is being given at the CMH," said the JP leader adding that the JP chief's liver is not functioning properly yet," 

Ershad was admitted to the CMH on June 26 and he is now kept in life support as his condition deteriorated.   

The 89-year-old former military ruler has been suffering from various old age complications, including low haemoglobin and liver problem, high bilirubin and kidney infection.  

Ershad was hardly seen in any programme since mid-November last due to his illness and gradually turned inactive in politics.

Once a strongman, Ershad received treatment aboard and at the CMH frequently over the last nine months.
