BNP Vice Chairman Hafizuddin arrested

Police have arrested BNP Vice Chairman Major (retd) Hafizuddun Ahmed on Thursday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch of police Joint Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman told Samakal that Hafizuddin Ahmed was arrested in connection with car vandalisation in front of the High Court on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon was arrested by police from the High Court area in the capital, said Shirin Sultana, wife of Khokon.

On Wednesday, a case was filed against some 500 BNP men for vandalizing cars and assaulting police.

Shahbagh Police Station SI Motiur Rahman filed the case.

A chase and counter-chase incident took place between police and leaders, activists of the Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Projonmo Dal in the city's High Court area on Tuesday.

The leaders and activists took position in front of the High Court demanding the release of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

At one stage, police chased them at around 2pm as they blocked the road for a long time. Then the BNP men threw brick chips aiming at police and vandalized some cars in the area. 

At that time, the incident of chase and counter-chase occurred between police and BNP men.
